Item Description: A carved box or container with an animal and human motif. The lid bears a small female torso. Double human figures and double crocodile figures enhance the sides of the container.

Cultural Profile: The Dogon villagers live south of Timbuktu in the Bandiagara Cliffs in Mali. Their houses are reminiscence of those of the Hopi in the Southwest United States. Their leader is known as a hogon and is the oldest man in the village. The Dogon are traditionally agriculturists and woodcarvers.
